The ancient chaos as a repeating theme in the author’s works

The abyss, infinite nothingness, mathematical zero, non-existence of space-time, seen as absolute divinity with an almost zen philosophy – in the Western culture meaning what was before God said “Let there be light” – that is the very subject that has fascinated and inspired me all my life. Thanks to it I am able to create in a state of near-obsession, trance, with even manic energy.

Obsessive development of the artwork

There was no other way to approach this work than as a free creation. The theme was meant to be arbitrary, and this piece became a literal purge of inner associations of my personality’s shadow side. Spontaneously, I fell into the depth of self, and delved into my deepest and innermost conceptions towards the rejected and displaced part of my unconscious. Towards the mind’s part where consciousness does not wander. I basically opened the gates of my inner hell and walked through the chaotic garden of my own libidinous motives and thoughts without any correction from the higher ideals of the super-self. I studied and analyzed the dark, barbaric, and uncouth within me to discover my dark essence and put it on paper. I wanted to be acquainted with everything of myself that I had had hitherto avoided. Thanks to this work, I could later develop and cultivate a general better understanding of self.

An unquenchable need to combine techniques and create something new

I often feel like a nature-born innovator. Leaving modesty aside for a bit so as to push myself further, this is a role that I thoroughly enjoy. Nonetheless, I always remain true to myself in my work. I can’t deny myself, I can’t fake it, and I’d rather endure misunderstanding than please everyone at all costs. Yet it’s hard for me to predict what I will come up with next, what I will invent, what I will create. Every work is a bit of a surprise for me. Even though sometimes I can seem transparent.

Experiments with combining pen and graphite drawing techniques, even more specifically pencils of different hardness levels, was my stepping stone to continuously discovering new ways, which later led me to experimenting with ink and oil combinations. That, however, was not yet the case with this artwork. In the piece presented here, I added pastel at times, and even used a marker marginally, but pens and graphite remain predominant.

The work eventually sold very nicely in 2010.
